Integrated Cell Construction & M&E at Tanjung Dua Belas
Introduction
The Challenge
High-Volume Waste Containment and Ecological Security
Large-scale waste management facilities require uncompromising structural and environmental security. The primary challenge at the Tanjung 12 site was engineering a system capable of permanently isolating hazardous landfill leachate and toxic gases from the surrounding groundwater and native soil. Constructing 8 massive containment cells simultaneously demands flawless integration across three separate engineering disciplines: heavy earthworks, complex geosynthetic welding, and active mechanical extraction systems. The site required a zero-failure tolerance to meet strict environmental regulations.
The Solution
Multi-Layered Geosynthetic & Mechanical Infrastructure
To deliver a fully compliant, leak-proof facility, we executed a comprehensive, three-tiered construction phase across all 8 cells:
- Advanced Geosynthetic Containment: We engineered an impenetrable multi-layered barrier system. This involved precise subgrade earthworks (backfilling and aggregate grading) followed by the secure laying, welding, and structural testing of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) geomembranes and non-woven geotextiles. Specialized reinforcement materials (H2Rx and SR5000L) were integrated to maximize the structural integrity of the cell floors.
- Integrated Extraction Networks: To actively manage hazardous byproducts, we constructed the site's main collection infrastructure. This included installing precast culverts, base pump wells, and dedicated HDPE gas and liquid pipeline networks to safely channel leachate and off-gassing away from the containment zones.
- Complete M&E Commissioning: To power the extraction systems and secure the site, we executed end-to-end Mechanical and Electrical works. This involved extensive main cable wiring, distribution board (DB) setup, and the installation of heavy-duty submersible pumps. The site was also outfitted with comprehensive solar and concrete-pole street lighting before undergoing rigorous Testing and Commissioning (T&C).
The Result
A Fully Operational, Regulated Containment Facility
The synchronized execution of earthworks, geosynthetic lining, and M&E installation successfully delivered 8 fully secured containment cells at Tanjung 12. By seamlessly integrating the physical impermeable barriers with active mechanical extraction systems, Verogroup provided a robust, future-proof waste management infrastructure that guarantees long-term ecological protection and total regulatory compliance.
